What is a stage timer?
A stage timer keeps the desk and the floor on the same remaining time. Someone times the show — stage manager, technical director, showcaller — while speakers and crew need to read the clock. ShowTiming splits the jobs: Control runs the stage timer, Stage displays it. Same event, same countdown.
One stage timer, two screens
The stage timer belongs to the same event. Two ways to look at it.
- Control runs the stage timer: start, pause, rundown, adjustments, short cue message. Signed-in operators only.
- Stage shows the stage timer read-only: remaining time up front, current segment, next when needed, desk message — with no way to start or stop the clock from the floor.
- Stage is a shareable, revocable link. Open it in a browser on venue screens. If a Stage view reconnects, it follows the live event countdown again rather than inventing its own clock.

Four steps to get the stage timer live.
- 1. Create an event and rundown. That feeds the stage timer.
- 2. Create named Stage links and open them on displays. No Stage-side account.
- 3. Open Control, select the first segment, start the countdown, then pause, adjust, and advance as the show runs.
- 4. After the show, regenerate or delete Stage links so previous URLs stop working and live access ends cleanly.

- What is a stage timer?
- A stage timer aligns desk and floor on the same remaining time: the desk controls, the floor reads. That is ShowTiming’s model.
- What does the stage timer show on Stage?
- Remaining time, the active segment, optionally the next one, and a desk message. The stage timer stays read-only.
- Do I need to install stage timer software?
- No. The ShowTiming stage timer opens in the browser.
- Can ShowTiming work as a conference timer?
- Yes. It is a stage timer that fits conference days: rundown, Stage on screens, Control to run the day.
- Can it work as a speaker timer?
- Yes. Stage shows the stage timer for the speaker, read-only.
- Can I show the time in another room?
- Yes. Open the same Stage link on another connected screen. It is still the event countdown.
- What about off-site displays?
- If the screen has internet and the link, it can show the same time as Control.
- Is there a stage timer app?
- No separate app: the stage timer runs in a modern browser.
- What should speakers see on the lectern?
- Usually the large remaining time from the stage timer, the current part title, and a desk message when you send one.
- How many Stage screens can I run at once?
- Discovery includes up to two Stage links per event. Pro events include up to twenty. Each link can be named and personalised on its own display while showing the same live countdown.
- Do people on stage need an account?
- No. Stage links are open URLs — no login on the Stage side. Only the operator needs a ShowTiming account for Control and link management.
- Can I adjust the time while the show is running?
- Yes. From Control you can add or remove seconds or minutes while the timer is running or paused. Default shortcuts include ±1 s, ±1 min, and ±10 min. Stage follows the same remaining time.
- What happens if a Stage screen loses its connection?
- When a Stage screen reconnects, it follows the live event countdown again. It is not meant to keep a private local clock apart from Control.
- How do I turn off Stage access after the show?
- From Stage & Broadcast, regenerate or delete each Stage link. Previous URLs stop working for that live view. That is the recommended post-show step.
